theDirtyChic Pop-Up

augmented reality pop-up store designed for theDirtyChic to explore how an in-person shopping experience can be converted to online.

About

Because a shopping experience should be for all. In my Immersive Design course, I explored the creative abilities in the Augmented Reality world. When considering what I wanted to do for my capstone, I wanted to take on the challenge of learning Blender and Adobe Stager/Aero to make an interactive experience for my newly launched brand, theDirtyChic. Prior to taking on this load, I had never used or played around in these programs. I was strictly an Adobe Photoshop/Illustrator person and was fearful of expanding my abilities. I was also highly doubtful of what I could accomplish.

In just four months, I managed to build an entire store from the ground up. I was frustrated with so many stores being so limited to where people live and felt that an experience should be seen by all. This elevates the online shopping space, allowing people to get outside and walk around a “store” without having to travel across the country or drive to a local mall. Through this store, you can click the product directly from the store and you will be taken to the link to purchase. Music plays in the background to also give the audience a real-life in-person feel. Additionally, I included my capstone magazine “theDirtyChic - Issue 1” in the store, so users can tap the photo and also be taken to the link to read. This gives viewers the opportunity to learn more about the brand and the story behind the pieces while also shopping.

PROCESS

YEAR: 2024

TOOLS: BLENDER, ADOBE STAGER, ADOBE AERO, ADOBE PHOTOSHOP

ROLE: IDEATOR, DESIGNER, ANIMATOR

The process of creating this pop-up began with research. It took me a few weeks to fully get the hang of these programs to the point where I could begin building. It all started with researching general landscapes of a pop-up store, what they include, and what I wanted mine to look like, which would also reflect the brand.

Blender: I started the designing of this in blender: building the walls, floors, tables, and basic structure of the store. I played with scale, shading, and had to ensure all necessary assets were in this file prior to exporting.

Adobe Stager: After blender, I imported the files into Stager and added textures, the books, martini glasses, and all other little aspects. It was not an easy task but was fun to see the basic structure from blender begin to look more like an actual store.

Adobe Aero: Once all was done in Stager, I imported all assets into Adobe aero: this was where the trial and error began. I tested the scaling of the store, added the products, animations, and sound. This part was definitely one of the more complicated and frustrating parts, because when something didn’t work or scaling was off, I would get extremely frustrated, re-do, and was forced to go back to the drawing board. This was the final step of the process
